Staphylococci
are the most common form of bacteria
found in dog skin disorders. Staphylococci infection is not contagious to humans
or other pets. Staphylococci are gram-positive
spherical bacteria cells (cocci),
that typically occur in microscopic
clusters similar to grapes (staphyle=bunch
of grapes). The term staphylococci
is used broadly, for any bacteria
with such a growth pattern.
Staphylococci infection causes itching skin, reddened skin, along with hair
loss in the affected areas. Bleeding,
crusted areas appear as the condition
advances.
The staphylococci organisms
generates toxins and enzymes that
can destroy both red and white blood
cells. Unlike some other types of
bacteria, staphylococci are generally
resistant to antibiotics, what impedes
the treatment and control of staphylococci
infections enormous.
Causes
of Staphylococci Infection:
Although dogs with weakened immune
system are most susceptible to
the strains, healthy dogs can also
get infected by staphylococci.
Hair follicles, sutures, or tiny
wounds are eagerly colonized by
staphylococci. Another doorway is
the respiratory tract.
Indication of staphylococci infection
is inflammation of skin , raised temperature,
swelling, and suppuration. A pus-filled
boil or abscess may develop around
the inflamed area.
Treatment of Staphylococci Infection:
- Salicylic acid, orally or topically can reduce staphylococci
.
- Washing or soaking with potassium permanganate is effective.
-
Clean affected areas daily with H2O2 to reduce staphylococci infection
